Look Familiar?

When doing my daily scan of ebay to see what ridiculously priced items were out there I ran across this: CERT AUTOS OF COBB, WAGNER, RUTH, MATHEWSON AND JOHNSON THE 1936 INAUGURAL CLASS OF BASEBALL’S HALL OF FAME which can be yours for a cool $250,000.

A Beautiful 5 Cut of the 1st Hall of Fame Class. Something struck me as odd. I’ve seen that Wagner auto somewhere before.

Here’s a closer look at the Wagner auto:

Hmm, that looks really familiar to me. So I went into my “Card Museum” File and found it. It’s from the Upper Deck 2005 SP Legendary Cuts Autograph Quad Cuts card.

It’s the same card. Look at the Silver lettering. Very obvious. In case you’re not familiar with it. That’s the card that UD worked out a “backroom deal” to recover after the Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson signatures on the card were found to be products of the forger Greg Marino.

Let’s take a look at the card again. This time at the Cobb.

Hey, that looks familiar too. Let’s take a look again at the Upper Deck 2005 SP Legendary Cuts Autograph Quad Cuts card. This time the other side.

Wow!! Interesting that the Wagner and Cobb would be reused when such a controversy over the original was made.
